A More Independent Life in Southern Spain
Coming soon from our little corner of Almería…

We’re British expats living in rural southern Spain, and we’re on a mission to become a little more self-sufficient, a little more resourceful — and hopefully a lot more capable!
We’re learning as we go: growing our own food, making better use of what we have, finding ways to reduce our reliance on the grid and the supermarket, and figuring out how to make rural life in Spain work for us.
And we’re sharing the journey — the things that work, the things that don’t, and the things we wish we’d known sooner.
What’s coming?
🌱 Growing & gardening
What to grow, when to grow it and how to cope with the heat, drought and very different growing conditions of southern Spain.
💧 Water & energy
Practical ways to make better use of water, solar power and the resources you already have.
🥫 Food & preserving
Growing it, cooking it, storing it and making the most of what you’ve got.
🔨 Projects & DIY
Things we’re building, fixing, adapting and occasionally getting completely wrong.
🇪🇸 Rural life in Spain
The realities of living in the Spanish countryside as a British expat — including the things nobody tells you before you move.
🧰 Useful resources & recommendations
Equipment, tools, books and other things we’ve discovered along the way.
🛍️ And eventually… a shop
Original designs, useful bits and pieces, and products inspired by life in rural Spain.
We’re learning as we go
This isn’t about becoming completely self-sufficient overnight.
It’s about making small changes that give us a little more independence, learning new skills and making better use of what we have.
If you’re living in Spain — or dreaming about doing something similar — we’d love you to come along for the journey.
Our journey is just getting started.
